"Two of my children were educated by Mr. Kozun from 2013 to 2017, and I cannot begin to convey what a transformative experience those years were for both of them. To this day, my now teenagers love to reminisce
about the creative and inspiring journal topics he came up with; the deep discussions they had about books over
tea or healthy salads; the collaborative projects that inspired several of their current hobbies; and the outdoor
adventures that tested their physical endurance and pushed them out of their comfort zones. Mr. Kozun is the
standard they measure all their current teachers against, and the greatest compliment they can pay one of their
teachers is to say that he or she reminds them of Mr. Kozun. And as a parent, I have always admired Mr. Kozun's
ability to strike the perfect balance between fun and firmness in the classroom. He allows his students to direct
their educational experience in a way that motivates them to not only do their best work but also encourages
them to understand how they learn and how to organize their time. Looking back, my children's time with Mr.
Kozun was not just an investment in their education but also in their character-building and self-development."

"My daughter was very fortunate to have been part of Spero School, Mr. Kozun, is an extraordinary teacher,
mentor, and friend to each of his students. You provide your students with a warm and welcoming classroom
environment that gave them room to grow. My daughter enjoyed being part of Spero School. She gained the
confidence she needed to bloom socially and advance academically. As a parent, I will always be grateful for
everything you did for all the students at Spero School."

"Jason Kozun was the Principal and teacher for our daughter for the key years of Middle School. She had come from the traditional school system and moved to this unique school in Grade 7. After meeting and speaking in depth with Jason, we knew he had a special talent for teaching these critical school years, as he was able to share and explain his concepts, approach and goals/objectives with a clarity and logical progression that made complete sense. Jason was able to teach in a way that laid the foundational framework for many key aspects, including critical thinking, essay construction, mathematical problem solving approach that have become the foundation of her high school years (she has achieved high honors at the most academically challenging school in our area ...this is something we were not sure could happen). Her depth of writing and expression grew exponentially and her confidence in her abilities and passions was wonderful to see. In the two years our daughter was with Jason, she developed a love for learning and the structured environment that to this day she says was her favorite time in school. It is hard to find words to convey the impact Jason had as a mentor and teacher on our families life - his skills go far beyond that of an educator he is an inspiration and role model that helps set children up for a successful life. Having Jason as a teacher or tutor is a rare opportunity that should not be missed!"

"We feel so incredibly fortunate to know Jason Kozun and that he has been a part of our lives for many years now. Jason taught both of our kids over a 6 year period of time, collectively, during their middle school years. Due in part to Jason's amazing teaching, instruction, hands-on and individual approach, by the time our kids went to high school, they were both extremely prepared and able to be very successful with their academics and in life too! Jason's all around knowledge and know how, is so strong, that I often find myself wondering if there is anything that he isn't proficient at. There could NOT be enough amazing things said about Jason Kozun!"

Mr. Jason Kozun
Lead teacher, Jason Kozun has been an educator his whole adult life. Starting with teaching backpacking and rock climbing to teens, he worked in over a dozen U.S. states and several countries as an adventure guide. Jason then took his passion for educating youth to the classroom where he found the Montessori method of classroom management. After just a few years of working as lead teacher of a mixed age classroom, Mr. Kozun developed a reputation amongst parents and his fellow teachers of being an especially effective educator and one that students enjoy working with.
Mr. Kozun holds a bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island. He attended Colorado Mountain College in Leadville and earned a certificate in Outdoor Recreation through the Semester in the Rockies program. Most recently he completed both Level I (1st thru 3rd grade) and Level II (4th thru 8th grade) certificates from the Montessori Teacher Education Center in Sunnyvale, California. He taught as lead teacher of a mixed age 4th-8th grade classroom for over a decade and has another decade of teaching at different outdoor schools, computer camps, and student adventure guiding services.
While a professional teacher by day, Mr. Kozun enjoys a wealth of other hobbies, experience from which often crosses over into his classroom teaching. Surfing, mountaineering, and kayaking have been his primary ways of exploring the extreme ends of our natural world. He is an accomplished hobby rancher with an acre of perennials, annuals, and chickens.
Our Materials
We have everything. Our collection of teaching materials comes from decades of teaching in small private schools and from hosting our own private school. While computer use is important to learning, we believe that teaching from books is an imperative part of all students' success and we have hundreds of volumes of resource books as well as many sets of literature books to share with your child(ren). We teach writing and English employing many Montessori materials that make the complex parts of language easy.
We have dozens of sets of manipulatives for math, science, and history. Many of our materials are 'real life' tools because our goal is to teach students to learn for the love of learning, not to just pass a test. Our younger students' math program is based around 'seeing' the math, and as students grow out of the math manipulatives into the pencil and paper, we offer great organizational tools that make complex problem solving easier for every mind.
